What it is

Before the wedding day, families invite Ganesh into the home, consecrate the mandap and calm the planetary influences. Pithi (haldi) is the turmeric ceremony that blesses and beautifies the bride and groom.

When families do it

Usually one to three days before the wedding, at times set from the wedding muhurat.

What happens

  1. Ganesh Sthapana: installing Ganesh for the wedding days
  2. Mandap Muhurat: blessing the wedding canopy and its pillar
  3. Grah Shanti: a short havan for the nine planets and family deities
  4. Pithi or haldi: turmeric paste applied with songs and blessings
  5. Mameru, where the maternal uncle's family brings gifts, if the family follows it

Every family does these a little differently. We talk through your family's customs first, and I follow them.
