What it is

Annaprashan marks the baby's move to solid food. Rice kheer is offered to the deity, and then the child receives the first spoonful as prasad.

When families do it

Usually around six months of age, on an auspicious day.

What happens

  1. Ganesh and family deity puja
  2. Offering kheer to the deity
  3. First bite fed by the father, grandfather or maternal uncle
  4. A playful choice of objects such as a book, pen or coin

Short and joyful. We plan it around the baby's nap, not the other way round.
